Alfa Romeo STELVIO a queen of a tow truck?

Cars could be divided into: nice, ugly, practical, capacious, economical and completely unnecessary like electric ones.

POLISH VERSION

Alfa Romeo Stelvio, on the other hand, is the kind of vehicle that grabs your heart at first sight and sticks in your consciousness so deeply, that you won't rest until you hold the key to your own "queen of a tow truck".

STELVIO

It is the name of the town and the highest passable Passo Della Stelvio in the Italian Eastern Alps. Due to the numerous switchbacks, elevation gains of up to 1880 m and an average slope of 7%, this 20-kilometer section of the SS-38 road is very often used to test the capabilities of all kinds of vehicles to the extreme.

By naming its first ever SUV STELVIO, Alfa wanted to emphasize two undeniable features of this car, i.e. its BEAUTY AND CHARACTER. The Italians started making the first attempts at production in 2010, but finally Stelvio had its premiere at the Auto Show in Los Angeles in 2016. The location was not accidental, because this model was created with the thought of conquering the American market.

Undoubtedly, the appearance of Stelvio on the automotive market stirred uptrends and set a new, better direction for the already present models: Audi Q5, BMW X3 or Mercedes-Benz GLC.

However, the charming Italian is not only a nicely bent sheet metal in the ALFA RED colour, it is also a devilish power. The QUADRIFOGLIO version under the hood has a castrated Ferrari 154 engine, a modest V6 - 2.9l with a power of 510 HP. 3.8 seconds to hundreds, top speed 283 km / h. In addition, lightweight construction, bi-turbo, variable valve timing and direct fuel injection. All elements of this puzzle made the Stelvio the fastest mass-produced SUV on the market, outclassing the then leader, i.e. the ugly thing that saved the existence of the PORSCHE brand - the CAYENNE model in the TURBO S version.

Stelvio is not only a cloverleaf version, there are also cheaper options to choose from: super, executive and business, as well as three drive units to choose from: 2.0 MultiAir Turbo 230 or 280 hp or MultiJet 2.2 with a modest 210 hp.

INTERIOR

Due to the fact that the tested model comes from the times when the competition for stuffing as many tablets and touchpads as possible into a square centimetre of the cockpit was not yet in force - it is quiet, minimalistic and functional. Ultra-comfortable seats that make you jump out of the car like a deer, even after a long journey. The space in the back is equally comfortable, and the boot can fit up to 525 litres of prosecco.

Over the years, the copy presented in the photos has undergone a number of modifications that clearly prove that even something that is perfect can be improved.

LET'S GO!

Numerous tests on the German highway have shown that this is not such a baby, you can easily go up to 250 km/h with the feeling that in the case of the flashing sales representative lights in Fabia, we still have enough steam to lose this annoying view from the rearview mirror.

An additional flavour to the ride is added by the D.N.A. system hidden in the magic knob. By turning it up or down, we are able to adjust the car to our driving style depending on current preferences or road conditions. A DYNAMIC mode will take extra zlotys out of your pocket for excessively used fuel, ALL WEATHER will bring you safely home in the biggest snowstorm through icy surfaces.

The tested version, in addition to a number of gearbox and engine modifications to improve performance, for which many thanks to WORKS by Grzegorz Wiekiera. In addition, it is equipped with the "R like, rather, do not turn on" mode, and in fact RACE, which deprives this car of any muzzles. An option for forty-year-olds without brakes who don't mind spending money on new tires, pads and washing the upholstery on the passenger side.

Regardless of the selected auto mode, it drives with incredible lightness. It is not characterized by excessive understeer or oversteer. It perfectly enters the corners, even those straight from Stelvio, forgiving a lot to the inefficient driver. Regardless of whether we are rushing in a traffic jam or rubbing the nose with a sales representative in Fabia, driving pleasure is at a very high level.

COMMUNITY

Due to the fact that Alfa Romeo has not been able to boast of stunning sales results for many years, even good quality products, and perhaps not without significance is the fact that a visit to a randomly selected Polish dealer, and then the Italian manufacturer's ASO has something of a masochism .

Maybe that's why the group of owners of more expensive Fiats is very modest in Poland, but of what quality. All, or almost all Alfists exude an incredibly nice disposition. They greet each other on the road, accosted in the car park willingly and extensively share their impressions of driving the Alfa and their knowledge of current towing rates.

And if the topic of tow trucks has already been mentioned, it's from the latest ranking of the British "What Car?" it is clear that the Stelvio is in the top five least reliable cars in the large SUV category, leaving far behind the Audi Q5, Volvo XC60, BMW X3 or Land Rover Discovery otherwise known as a “disaster”.

That is why this joke with a beard has not been funny for a long time, but only wonders how much tow trucks actually cost, because he has never used them. In this thread, you can always turn to the owners of the German DAS AUTO in diesel, who are much more familiar with the subject than the owners of 147, 156 and 159 all together.

ANY DEFECTS?

Not to be too sweet, because this is not a sponsored article, but there are some disadvantages. The first of them and driving me personally crazy are the turn signals - who programmed it and what they mean, probably even the oldest resident of Piedimonte San Germano has no idea.

Two is a fuel usage.

Such a defect is not a defect, but unfortunately, in order for the Stelvio to drive at a noticeable level of "serotonin secretion", we have to take into account the loss of about 15 litres (overpaid petrol from Orlen) for every 100 kilometres. It is known that with such a large car it's hard to blame it, but for comparison, my previous SUV - BMW X6 with similar power and driving mode, did not take more than the equivalent of 10 litres from the wallet.

However, the new Highway Code works so effectively that you can safely eat up to a level of less than 8.5 litres. Option for bores and those who already have unpaid 20 penalty points.

SO NO RISK NO FUN

BUY STELVIO FOR YOURSELF

If you were wondering for a moment if it's worth it, it's worth it. Appearance, comfort, and quality in relation to the paid price - everything is alright here.

Currently, there is a facelift version, thanks to which the choice has increased, and the prices have fallen slightly.
